Position Summary

JR Metal Works is seeking an experienced MIG Welder to join our growing custom fabrication team. This position is responsible for interpreting blueprints, fitting and assembling fabricated metal components, and performing high-quality MIG welding to produce custom products that meet exact customer specifications.

The ideal candidate has experience in custom metal fabrication, blueprint reading, structural fit-up, and precision welding. This role requires strong attention to detail, pride in craftsmanship, and the ability to consistently produce high-quality work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

As a MIG Welder, you will play a critical role in ensuring the structural integrity, dimensional accuracy, and overall quality of our fabricated products while contributing to a safe, efficient, and team-oriented shop environment.

What You'll Do

  • Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and work instructions.
  • Perform layout, fit-up, alignment, and assembly of fabricated steel components prior to welding.
  • Perform high-quality MIG welding on custom fabricated parts and assemblies.
  • Weld components according to company quality standards and customer specifications.
  • Verify measurements and tolerances before and after welding using precision measuring equipment.
  • Inspect completed welds for strength, appearance, penetration, and dimensional accuracy.
  • Identify and correct fit-up issues, distortion, or alignment problems before final welding.
  • Perform grinding, finishing, and cleanup of welded assemblies as required.
  • Operate fabrication equipment including grinders, positioners, saws, and oxy-acetylene torches for heat straightening.
  • Safely operate forklifts (when certified).
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area using 5S principles.
  • Follow OSHA regulations, PPE requirements, and all company safety policies.
  • Report quality concerns, production issues, or material shortages promptly.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum 5 years of MIG welding and custom fabrication experience.
  • Strong blueprint reading and weld symbol interpretation skills.
  • Experience fitting and welding structural steel and custom fabricated assemblies.
  • Ability to weld to tight tolerances (up to .060 inch).
  • Experience using measuring tools including tape measures, squares, levels, and layout equipment.
  • Ability to operate grinders and fabrication equipment safely.
  • Experience using an oxy-acetylene torch for heat straightening.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must provide your own welding helmet for the on-site weld test.

On-Site Welding Assessment

Candidates will complete:

  • Blueprint reading evaluation
  • Fit-up assessment
  • Hands-on MIG welding test
