With team members in Australia, USA, Canada, Europe and Africa, SLR’s Mining Advisory Group provides advisory services to the mining sector at all stages of project development from exploration and resource evaluation through scoping, prefeasibility and feasibility studies, financing, permitting, construction, operation, and closure and rehabilitation. We provide support to major mining companies, mid-caps, junior mining and exploration companies, financial institutions, governments, law firms and individual investors on the technical and commercial aspects of mineral property development and have extensive experience in all commodities and mining areas of the world.

We are seeking an early-career Mining Engineer to join our growing Mining Advisory team. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside experienced industry professionals and gain exposure to a wide variety of mining projects, commodities and jurisdictions. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to mine planning studies, operational improvement projects, technical assessments and feasibility studies while developing your technical and consulting skills.

You will receive mentoring from experienced mining professionals and have opportunities to work across both office-based and site-related projects.

This position could be located in SLR’s Brisbane, Sydney or Perth office.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• Support the delivery of mining studies and assist in the preparation of technical reports.
• Assist with pit optimisation, mine design, production scheduling, fleet estimation and cost modelling activities.
• Analyse data and contribute to technical evaluations.
• Participate in a range of scoping, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across a range of technical disciplines.
• Contribute to client presentations, project reports and technical documentation.
• Develop skills in industry-leading mining software and analytical tools.

Skills and Experience

We're looking for a motivated early-career professional who is eager to learn, solve problems and build a career in mining consulting. With skills and qualifications in:

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering (completed, or graduating soon).
• Strong academic performance.
• Eligibility to work in Australia.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to learn new software and technical concepts quickly.
• Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
• Positive attitude and willingness to contribute to a collaborative team environment.
• Interest in consulting and working across a variety of mining methods and commodities.

Exposure to any of the following would be advantageous, but is not essential:

• Pit optimisation and/or enterprise optimisation software (Whittle, Deswik.Pseudoflow, Deswik.GO, MineMax, RPM Enterprise Optimiser)
• Mine planning and design software (Deswik.CAD, Vulcan, Surpac, RPM Mine Planner).
• Mine scheduling software (Deswik.Sched, RPM Mine Planner, Spry)
• Data analysis tools such as Excel, Power BI or Python.
• Vacation work, internships or practical mining experience.
• Understanding of open pit and/or underground mining methods.
