Responsibilities & Requirements

The MRI Tech Outpatient operates magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images in an outpatient setting, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and care throughout the imaging process. This role supports timely and accurate diagnosis by collaborating with radiologists and other healthcare professionals, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, and upholding patient confidentiality. Performs other duties as assigned. All job responsibilities are to be carried out in alignment with Kettering Health's mission, vision, values, and B Safe program. Required Education

• Associate degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field, or completion of an accredited MRI technology program.

Required Work Experience

• None required beyond completion of an accredited MRI or radiologic technology program
• Clinical rotations accepted

Required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations

• Current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Magnetic Resonance Imaging [R.T.(MR)(ARRT)] or certification by the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT).
• Ohio Department of Health Radiologic License as applicable.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

• Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) and radiology information systems

Essential Functions

• Prepare and position patients for MRI procedures, verifying identification and obtaining relevant medical history.
• Explain MRI procedures to patients and address questions or concerns to ensure understanding and comfort.
• Screen patients for contraindications, such as metal implants, devices, or pregnancy, according to established protocols.
• Operate MRI equipment to perform diagnostic scans as ordered by physicians, adjusting parameters for optimal image quality.
• Monitor patients during procedures, recognizing and responding to signs of distress or adverse reactions.
• Evaluate images for diagnostic quality and completeness, repeating scans as necessary to meet clinical requirements.
• Document all procedures, patient interactions, and imaging results accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Ensure MRI equipment is maintained, calibrated, and functioning properly; report malfunctions or safety concerns promptly.
• Adhere to safety protocols to protect patients, staff, and self from unnecessary exposure to magnetic fields and other hazards.
• Collaborate with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to facilitate timely interpretation and communication of imaging results.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, infection control, and organizational policies at all times.
• Participate in continuing education and training to maintain certification and stay current with advancements in MRI technology

Preferred Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology, Health Sciences, or a related field - Experience as an MRI Technologist in an outpatient or hospital setting - Additional ARRT certifications in specialized modalities
