Night Library Associate

JOB SUMMARY

The Night Library Associate of Access and Delivery Services at Pius XII Memorial Library at Saint Louis University focuses on ensuring high level of service to the patrons at the circulation desk. The Night Library Associate acts as the main liaison between SLU-Link libraries and the courier, handles all library billing, and serves as support for Inter-library Loan and Reserves department during the night hours.

The working hours for this position are Sunday-Thursday, 6pm-2am. During school breaks and summer, the shift hours will change to meet the library’s operating hours. Typically, the breaks/summer hours will be Monday-Friday, 1pm-9pm and Saturday-Sunday 10am-6pm.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Service, Communication, & Problem Solving

• Performs circulation duties within Access & Delivery Services department
• Responds to user questions, assist with basic reference and directional questions, and guiding users in navigating databases, conducting searches, and locating materials
• Understands library policies to address any patron inquiries
• Closes the library building either independently or in coordination with other library staff and student workers
• Assists with training, supervision, and evaluation of evening and weekend student workers
• Ensures the security of the library building and its collections
• Collects and monitors statistics needed for operational efficiency

Billing

• Oversees all library billing notifications to students, faculty, and staff including e-mail, print, and in-person confidential and sensitive interactions with patrons
• Oversees all billing and replacement of lost or damaged items
• Ensures that graduating students are informed about potential academic holds for unreturned items
• Places academic holds for unreturned items

Inter-library Loan (ILL)

• Oversees handling of external loan requests (SLU-Link, Inter-library Loan) and information queries
• Oversees all library “hold shelf” and “in-transit” loans to and from Pius Library to all SLU-Link and Inter-library loan libraries
• Serves as a main liaison between the courier and SLU-Link libraries regarding items lost in transit and/or requested too long
• Assists the Inter-library Loan Coordinator with borrowing, lending, and document delivery for the Inter-library Loan requests
• Responsible for packing Inter-library Loan shipment for courier pick up

Collaboration, & Professional Development

• Supports the library’s mission, vision, and values
• Contributes to the advancement of the library’s strategic plan
• Prepares, reviews, maintains, and assists with a variety of related reports, records, and documents
• Cooperates as a team member with library staff in performing any duties essential to efficient library services
• Participates in committees and groups in support of library’s strategic plan implementation
• Participates in ongoing professional development and stays current in regard to library related practices, technology, and equipment
• Performs other duties as assigned

• Knowledge of multiple library-specific computer applications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree
• Two or more years of current (within 5 years) experience in a library
• Supervisory experience
• Proficiency in multiple library-specific computer applications, e.g. integrated library systems, database application, and content management systems

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability and willingness to contribute to the library’s mission and strategic goals
• Demonstrated experience and understanding of the broad diversity of the university community
• Demonstrated understanding of best practices in academic research libraries and in Access and Delivery Services
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the university community
