Offshore Senior Toolpusher

About the Job

The Senior Toolpusher is a key operational leader responsible for supervising drilling operations and associated activities to ensure execution in accordance with the approved well program. This role oversees drilling personnel, equipment, and operational performance while maintaining the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and well control.

Working closely with the Offshore Installation Manager (OIM), Rig Manager, Client Representatives, and third-party service providers, the Senior Toolpusher ensures drilling activities are conducted safely, productively, and in compliance with company procedures, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. The position plays a critical role in operational planning, personnel development, equipment readiness, and overall drilling performance.

• Supervise drilling operations and ensure activities are executed in accordance with the approved well program.

• Conduct pre-job meetings for non-routine and critical drilling operations.

• Communicate operational objectives, program updates, and procedural changes to drilling personnel.

• Monitor the maintenance, repair, and readiness of drilling equipment to ensure operational reliability.

• Ensure inspection, certification, and maintenance records for drilling equipment and tubulars are maintained.

• Oversee mud systems, solids control equipment, and drilling support systems to ensure optimal performance.

• Review and approve drilling-related work permits and operational activities.

• Ensure well control requirements are maintained and support emergency well control operations when required.

• Perform and verify critical drilling and well control calculations.

• Coordinate drilling activities with the OIM, Client Representatives, and third-party service providers.

• Review daily drilling reports and monitor operational performance.

• Support inventory management and procurement of critical drilling equipment and spare parts.

• Assist in planning and executing rig moves and major operational projects.

• Recommend operational improvements to enhance safety, efficiency, and drilling performance.

QHSE

• Promote compliance with Company QHSE policies, procedures, and industry regulations.

• Ensure hazards, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions are reported and addressed promptly.

• Lead participation in safety meetings, drills, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Ensure regular well control and kick drills are conducted and documented.

• Maintain high standards of safety, housekeeping, and environmental stewardship onboard the rig.

Personnel Leadership

• Provide leadership, supervision, and direction to drilling personnel.

• Mentor, coach, and develop crew members to support competency and career progression.

• Conduct performance evaluations and provide recommendations for training, promotion, and disciplinary actions.

• Ensure personnel are trained, competent, and capable of performing assigned duties safely and effectively.

• Foster a positive safety culture and strong teamwork across the drilling department.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Drilling Technology, or a related discipline; equivalent industry experience may be considered.

• High School Diploma or equivalent qualification.

• Extensive drilling operations experience with progressive supervisory responsibility in offshore or land drilling environments.

• Previous experience in senior drilling supervisory positions such as Toolpusher, Night Toolpusher, or equivalent leadership role.

• Strong understanding of drilling operations, well control principles, rig equipment, and drilling performance optimization.

• Proven experience supervising multidisciplinary drilling crews and coordinating third-party service providers.

• Valid offshore medical certificate and required vaccination records.

• IWCF or IADC Well Control certification preferred.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
