Packaging Specialist I - Temporary

Overview

The position is responsible for ensuring that key Service and Quality metrics are fulfilled in EO’s main Packaging Dept located in the Barrington, NJ Distribution Center. Packaging Specialists will handle everything from a small glass lens to a large metal plate, in volumes ranging from a single unit to thousands. On the job training will be provided to perform up to 5 essential tasks in our climate-controlled packing area. These essential tasks are: packing and labeling all required standard product; running the automated lens bagging machine; printing special custom labels for certain products; bulk packaging items; and pulling the picklists for customer orders. Additionally, the Packaging Specialist must also be able to perform 1-2 essential functions in our Distribution Center as needed, such as material putaway and picking.

Responsibilities

Must be able to perform two or more essential tasks as the primary responsibility and be proficient in at least 15% of the duties on the Packing Training Matrix within the first six months. Level I employees are expected to continue to develop and cross train, becoming proficient in at least 35% of the duties on the Packing Training Matrix before being considered for the next level. Individuals must follow all safety rules and procedures, as well as adhere to all company policies.

• Ensure that optics are packed carefully and efficiently in finished goods packaging per company guidelines
• Complete optics handling class yearly and follow all protocols related to handling glass and specialty materials
• Follow all Safety Data Sheet (SDS) guidelines
• Be able to read and follow packing instructions from internal documentation
• Must be able to locate, pull, and pack products for customer orders from inventoried packing carts
• Process special customer labels as required
• Use a computer to print barcoded inventory labels
• Use minimal transactions in SAP to assist with daily tasks
• Use an automated lens bagging machine to pack and print labels for high quantity optics
• Use a hand-held scanner to transfer inventory to the finished goods cart area
• Maintain good housekeeping as required by Safety + 5S practices
• Must be able to perform certain Distribution Specialist warehouse duties as required

Education and Experience

High School or equivalent; no experience required.

Physical Requirements

Adequate manual dexterity to perform essential functions; ability to use some physical efforts to handle heavy materials, boxes, or equipment (most tasks require no more than 50 lbs. lifting); position requires candidate to be sitting a large percentage of the time; ability to work in a warehouse environment.

Compensation Range Transparency:

At Edmund Optics, we are committed to transparency and equity in our hiring practices. The posted salary range for this role reflects the expected base pay. The actual offer will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to relevant skills, education, work experience, business needs, and geographic location.

Salary Range:$15.50 - $16.50 per hour
