Part-Time Staff Accompanist & Piano Instructor

Overview

Utah State University Eastern invites applications for a part-time Staff Accompanist & Music Instructor. This multi-faceted role provides critical collaborative piano support for the choral ensembles while delivering high-quality instruction in both class piano and applied private lessons.

Responsibilities

Collaborative Pianist & Accompanist

• Serve as the primary accompanist for the Concert Choir and Chamber Choir during scheduled rehearsals.
• Attend all required dress rehearsals, evening performances, and concerts.
• Sight-read advanced choral literature and read open scores for rehearsing voice parts.
• Follow and collaborate closely with the Choral Director.
• Prepare piano accompaniments independently prior to rehearsals and performances.

Classroom & Studio Instruction

• Teach Group Class Piano (1-credit course meeting twice weekly), adapting instruction to accommodate students ranging from complete beginners to advanced levels.
• Utilize piano lab equipment and instructional software (such as Piano Marvel) for classroom management and individual learning paths.
• Provide private, applied piano lessons to assigned undergraduate music majors and non-majors, covering a varied repertoire of piano literature.
• Evaluate student progress, maintain academic records, and participate in juries, recitals, and auditions as required.

Qualifications

• Experience: Demonstrated experience as a piano instructor and collaborative pianist.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Music or a closely related field (or equivalent professional performance/teaching experience) preferred.
• Technical Skills: Advanced sight-reading ability, proficiency in open score reading, and familiarity with piano lab equipment and software (e.g., Piano Marvel).
• Teaching & Classroom Management: Proven ability to individualize instruction for students across various proficiency levels.
• Professionalism: Strong communication skills, reliability, and the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and student musicians.
