About this role
Ellerslie, Auckland | Full Time | Fixed Term until 30 November 2026
Payroll is more than processing pays – it's about ensuring every team member is paid accurately, on time, every time.
We're looking for an experienced Payroll Officer to join our People & Culture team on a fixed-term basis, starting as soon as possible. This role has become available during a period of transition and offers the opportunity to step into a busy, collaborative payroll team supporting one of New Zealand's leading fresh produce businesses.

About the role
This isn't a standard payroll role. Our payroll environment is varied and complex, supporting a diverse workforce across multiple business units, locations and employment arrangements.
You'll be responsible for processing payroll across a range of collective and individual employment agreements, with employees working under different pay structures, pay frequencies and paysets. You'll need to confidently interpret complex employment conditions, apply payroll legislation accurately, and ensure every employee is paid correctly and on time.
Working closely with the Payroll Manager and wider Payroll team, you'll play an important role in maintaining payroll integrity, resolving queries, supporting payroll reporting and contributing to continuous improvements.
If you enjoy the challenge of complex payrolls, have strong technical payroll knowledge and are confident navigating multiple pay groups and employment agreements, this is an opportunity to put your expertise to good use.
Your responsibilities will include:
Processing fortnightly & weekly payrolls accurately and on time
Managing payroll maintenance, including employee changes, leave and deductions
Processing final pays, bonuses and other special payments
Interpreting and applying complex collective employment agreements and payroll legislation
Maintaining ACC, KiwiSaver and statutory payroll obligations
Responding to payroll queries and providing exceptional customer service to employees and managers
Supporting reporting, reconciliations and month-end activities
Assisting with payroll projects and process improvements
What you'll bring
We're looking for someone who can hit the ground running and enjoys working in a complex payroll environment.
You'll have:
Proven experience processing complex payrolls, ideally with both salaried and waged employees
Essential experience using DataPay
Strong knowledge of the Holidays Act, payroll legislation and tax requirements
Experience working across multiple pay groups, employment agreements and contract types
Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
Strong Excel skills and confidence working across multiple systems
A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to prioritise competing deadlines
Experience with SAP HCM, time and attendance systems, or payroll reporting would be an advantage.
