Join TAL's Finance team as a Power BI Developer, where you'll create intuitive reporting and visualisation solutions that enable stakeholders to access timely, accurate financial insights. Leveraging an established data environment, you'll transform complex data into meaningful reporting that supports better business decision-making while driving operational efficiencies and continuous improvement.
Working within a collaborative and supportive team, you'll partner closely with business stakeholders to understand challenges, uncover opportunities and deliver fit-for-purpose reporting solutions. Success in this role will come from your curiosity, analytical mindset and ability to learn quickly, ask insightful questions and continuously refine solutions based on user feedback. You'll thrive in an environment that values teamwork, knowledge sharing and practical problem-solving.
In this role you will:
- Work directly with stakeholders to translate business questions into measures and report views, iterating as requirements evolve
- Source, transform and shape data to populate the semantic model, applying tools such as SQL and Power Query where appropriate
- Extend the semantic data model where needed to support new reporting requirements, with support from senior team members
- Develop professional, user-friendly Power BI reports and dashboards using the semantic data model (star schema)
- Create DAX measures to support new visualisations and business logic, with attention to performance and correctness
- Engage report users to collect feedback on draft views, assess whether reports are useful and being adopted, and improve reports based on their input
- Improve dataset refresh performance, workspace structure, and documentation so reporting stays reliable and maintainable over time.
- Take an end-to-end view of delivery from requirements elicitation and design through to implementation, testing, reconciliation, feedback and continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Degree in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or equivalent demonstrated experience
- Experience developing Power BI reports and dashboards
- Working proficiency in DAX for measure creation, calculated columns, and Calculation Groups
- Good understanding of data modelling concepts, particularly star schema design and table relationships
Desirable:
- Qualified or part-qualified Actuary (FIAA or equivalent), or Accountant (CA or CPA)
- Experience in life insurance or financial services reporting
- Familiarity with financial reporting cycles and regulatory requirements
- Experience creating user documentation or training materials
