AI Summary
Develops and optimizes astronomical data processing technologies to detect transient sources in sky surveys, correlates them with gravitational wave events and radio survey counterparts, and implements multi-messenger follow-up protocols using Bayesian methods and machine learning.
About this role
This position will be announced in the near future, but you are already welcome to submit your application. Discover a wide range of job opportunities in the field of Radio Astronomy.
Core Responsibilities:
Development and optimization of technologies for astronomical data processing to detect transient sources in sky surveys, identification with gravitational wave events, and their counterparts in radio surveys, e.g., MeerKAT and its extension, DSA2000, and synergy with the SKAO
Cooperation with the scientific departments of the DZA at the interface of radio and multi-messenger astronomy in setting up efficient protocols related to follow up of gravitational wave events, gamma-ray bursts, fast radio bursts, neutrino events, etc.
Exploitation of novel data science techniques, e.g., Bayesian methods, machine learning, data provenance
Core Requirements:
A PhD in Astrophysics or equivalent field of research. A focus on time-domain, multi-messenger astronomy and/or high-energy astroparticles, e.g., cosmic rays, neutrino, etc., are desirable
A strong experience with variability studies in the optical, x-ray and/or gamma-rays, and familiarity with radio data calibration and imaging techniques
Strong experience in preparing and handling science-ready data products from large-area sky surveys, and implementation of multiwaveband research projects to investigate variable sources, including the use of openly accessible telescopes and satellites
