Principal Energy Market Analysis

Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Principal with a background in North American electricity markets. In this role you will work closely with senior leadership to support our growth strategy and provide subject matter expertise both internally through coaching and developing staff as well as externally to our clients. You will support the delivery of projects, organize the work and manage client interaction.

Responsibilities

Technical Duties

• Act as a subject matter expert on market operations, design, rules, procedures, process and policy.
• Conduct research and interpret ISO/RTO and utility tariffs, market rules, operating manuals, business practices, and regulatory filings to determine their applicability and implications for clients.
• Assess proposed market reforms, emerging participation models, and developments affecting storage, distributed energy resources, flexible demand, large loads, and other technologies
• Perform financial, commercial, and market due diligence, including assessments of project operations, market revenues, and contract provisions.
• Use data and transparent calculations to quantify impacts, test assumptions, compare alternatives, and support recommendations.
• Collaborate with other teams across EPE to strategize on common projects, market trends, regulatory changes, and investment opportunities.
• Develop and maintain key stakeholder relationships, including clients, industry organizations, and regulatory bodies.
• Stay up to date with emerging technologies, market innovations, and best practices in the energy sector.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Leadership Duties

• Lead the Energy Market Analysis team fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
• Develop and implement marketing strategies for EPE's energy market analysis services.
• Build strong relationships and contribute to client management, marketing, sales and business development activities.
• Manage project staffing, resource utilization, and staff development.
• Prepare scopes of work and responses to RFPs, defining scope, effort and time estimates.
• Engage with clients to understand and address project needs and concerns.
• Ensure quality and accuracy in all deliverables produced by the team.
• Oversee project timelines, ensuring on schedule completion, within budget, and to client satisfaction.
• Mentor junior team members, enhancing team knowledge and capabilities.
• Representing EPE at industry events, conferences and networking events.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bring your passion, here's what’s needed:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, economics, or related field.
• 8-10 years of experience in the electric energy industry, with expertise in electricity market operations, design, analysis, or advisory services
• Significant experience in addressing strategic, economic and regulatory issues in the energy sector.
• Strong background in one or more North American electricity markets and working familiarity with other key markets, such as PJM, SPP, MISO, NYISO, ISO-NE, CAISO, IESO, AESO.
• Some experience with FTRs, TSRs, RECs, ITC and PTC, PPA negotiation, and financial modeling.
• Experience in financial modeling and financing, or contract negotiation.
• Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills and technological aptitude.

Location: This position is remote US or Canada
