The Role

The Manufacturing Quality Engineer – Fire Pumps is responsible for ensuring fire pump packages and associated fire protection equipment are manufactured, tested, and documented in compliance with LPCB, UL, FM and ISO 9001 standards.

The role supports quality assurance throughout the manufacturing lifecycle of diesel and electric-driven fire pump systems, ensuring products meet customer specifications and regulatory requirements.


Key Responsibilities

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with LPCB, UL, FM and ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Monitor manufacturing and assembly processes to maintain product quality.
  • Conduct internal audits and support customer and third-party audits.
  • Manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and support Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).

Testing & Inspection

  • Conduct and witness:
  • Flow testing
  • Hydrostatic pressure testing
  • Mechanical inspections
  • Electrical and control panel verification
  • Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT)
  • Verify pump performance, including flow, pressure, vibration and reliability.
  • Maintain calibration and traceability of inspection and test equipment.

Manufacturing Support

  • Review fabrication, machining, assembly and finishing against engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Inspect pumps, diesel engines, electric motors, controllers and control panels.
  • Work with production, engineering, procurement and suppliers to resolve quality issues.

Documentation

  • Prepare and maintain:
  • Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs)
  • Material certificates and traceability records
  • Quality reports
  • Test records and manufacturing dossiers
  • Ensure documentation complies with ISO 9001 and project requirements.
  • Support certification submissions and customer inspections.

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in root cause investigations and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing activities.
  • Recommend improvements to reduce defects, rework and downtime.


What We're Looking For

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 3–5 years' experience in a manufacturing quality engineering role.
  • Experience in fire protection systems, pump manufacturing, rotating equipment or mechanical manufacturing.

Technical Knowledge

  • Good understanding of:
  • NFPA 20
  • UL and FM standards
  • ISO 9001
  • Centrifugal pump operation and testing
  • Diesel engine and electric motor systems
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, technical specifications and manufacturing procedures.

Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Experience with NCR, CAPA, 8D and FMEA methodologies.
  • Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable

  • ISO 9001 Internal Auditor qualification.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or equivalent.
  • Experience with UL/FM-certified fire protection equipment.
  • Knowledge of UKCA/CE marking requirements.

Working Conditions

  • Manufacturing and test facility environment.
  • Occasional UK and international travel for supplier visits, audits and customer inspections.
  • PPE required within production and testing areas.
