About this role
We are seeking a detail-oriented Real Estate Accountant / Bookkeeper with proven experience in the real estate or property management industry to support day-to-day accounting operations for a portfolio of approximately 100 units.
Important: Real estate or property management accounting experience is a firm requirement for this role. Applications without this background will not be considered.
The successful candidate will play a key part in keeping the books clean, accurate, and ready for review across multiple properties — with a particular focus on accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and making sure invoices are correctly coded and allocated to the right properties.
Key Responsibilities
- Process accounts payable and vendor bills
- Support accounts receivable and rent/payment tracking
- Perform bank and credit card reconciliations
- Track property-level expenses and allocations
- Review, process, and reconcile invoices
- Monitor invoice coding and property allocation accuracy
- Verify AI-generated invoice entries and correct any errors or misallocations
- Maintain accurate data entry and updates within the accounting / property management system
- Provide monthly bookkeeping support
- Coordinate with the internal team on approvals, payments, and reporting
- Help keep the books clean, organized, and ready for review
Requirements
Required
- Proven accounting/bookkeeping experience specifically within the real estate or property management industry — this is a non-negotiable requirement; applications without this background will not be considered
- Solid understanding of Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) processes
- Comfort with bank and account reconciliations
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to spot and correct discrepancies
- Proficiency with accounting and/or financial software
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Based in South Africa
Preferred
- Hands-on experience with Yardi (Yardi Breeze Premier in particular) — candidates with Yardi experience will be strongly prioritized. Please highlight Yardi experience clearly in your application.
- Familiarity with invoice management and property-level accounting
- Previous experience reviewing and correcting AI-assisted data entries
Work Schedule
- Initially required to work during Eastern Standard Time (EST) business hours
- Opportunity for increased schedule flexibility after onboarding and training
- Full-time position
Compensation:
- R20,000 per month - depending on experience.
