The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct nursing care, clinical assessment, medication administration, and health monitoring services within a federally contracted ICE residential facility in Alexandria, LA.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, the RN performs nursing assessments, delivers direct patient care, administers medications, conducts health screenings, responds to medical emergencies, coordinates referrals, and documents all clinical encounters. The RN performs duties within the scope of their professional license and applicable state regulations.
This role requires strong clinical nursing skills, sound judgment, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Nursing Assessment & Patient Care
- Conduct nursing assessments, health screenings, and ongoing patient evaluations.
- Provide direct nursing care, including medication administration, wound care, first aid, and treatment of acute and chronic health conditions.
- Monitor patient health status and coordinate care with providers and other healthcare team members.
- Identify and respond to medical, behavioral health, and safety concerns.
Medication Management
- Administer and document medications in accordance with provider orders and nursing standards.
- Monitor for medication effectiveness, adverse reactions, and potential drug interactions.
- Support continuity of care through medication reconciliation and patient education.
Emergency Response & Infection Control
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide appropriate nursing interventions, including Basic Life Support (BLS) when required.
- Conduct health screenings and infectious disease testing in accordance with organizational policies.
- Implement infection prevention and control measures and promote a safe, healthy environment.
Care Coordination & Communication
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care, referrals, and follow-up services.
- Communicate patient status, concerns, and care needs to appropriate team members.
- Participate in shift reports and care planning activities.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete clinical documentation.
- Complete required reports and ensure compliance with applicable nursing standards, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Protect the confidentiality and security of patient information.
Required Qualifications & Core Competencies:
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred.
- Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) multi-state or Louisiana license.
- Minimum two (2) years of clinical nursing experience in a healthcare setting.
- Proficiency in patient assessment, medication administration, wound care, infection control, emergency response, and clinical documentation.
- Experience using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Current CPR and BLS certification
- Ability to obtain and maintain required background clearances.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
Desired Skills:
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or another commonly encountered language
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- ACLS and/or PALS
- Experience working in a government-contracted, residential, shelter, correctional, or congregate-care medical setting.
- Experience with infectious disease testing and screening protocols in a high-volume or congregate setting.
- Experience providing nursing care to patients of all ages.
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Training or experience in Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) frameworks.
- Training or experience with Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques.
- Training or experience in crisis intervention and verbal de-escalation (e.g., CPI, MANDT, or similar programs).
- Experience working in a fast-paced, 24/7 operational environment with high patient turnover.

- Must show proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
- Internal background check to the satisfaction of contract requirements.
- If applicable, Child Abuse/ Neglect Report (CAN) or child protective services check with no adverse findings.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during facility operations (up to 8–12 hours per shift).
- Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations throughout the facility
- Ability to sit at a computer workstation for extended periods while completing documentation and screenings.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move supplies and equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive motions.
- Capability to work in varied environmental conditions (indoor/outdoor, temperature variations).
- Visual acuity for reading medical records, medication labels, test results, and clinical documentation.
- Auditory ability to monitor the clinical environment, communicate with patients and staff, and detect signs of distress.
Work Environment:
- Fully on-site position at a federally contracted residential ICE facility in Alexandria, LA
- Work schedules may include shifts overnight, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Fast-paced, high-tempo operational environment requiring composure, attention to detail, cultural sensitivity, and professionalism at all times.
