Position Overview

We are hiring a Research Scientist, Raw Material Characterization. The Research Scientist, Raw Material Characterization will be responsible for conducting supervisor-directed research to develop and improve analytical methods supporting the Raw Material Characterization Program.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

• Develop robust ICP-MS and LC-MS methods for trace metal and small-molecule analysis to support raw material characterization and impurity control in cell culture media.
• Troubleshoot ICP-MS performance issues using complementary analytical techniques.
• Provide comprehensive analytical support for Raw Material Characterization services.
• Provide analytical support to other R&D groups.
• Develop and maintain expertise in areas aligned with the company’s products and strategic objectives, including cell culture media formulation, cell growth, high-throughput automation, and liquid handling.
• Analyze data and prepare summary reports.
• Design experiments to fulfill custom requests.
• Prepare formal reports and customer-facing presentations.
• Support the QC team with ICP-MS instrument and sample preparation methods.

Required Skills/Education:

• B.S. in a science, bioscience, engineering or bioengineering field with >7 years of relevant work experience or M.S. with >5 years or Ph.D. with 0-2 years of relevant working experience.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience, with emphasis in analytical method development using ICP-MS and LC-MS.
• Ability to use professional concepts, company’s policies, and procedures to perform a wide range of assigned work and solve complex problems.
• Ability to demonstrate potential for technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others, and independent thought.
• Advanced knowledge of Cell Culture, Biochemistry, and Analytical Chemistry.
• Advanced knowledge of basic laboratory equipment (scales, pH meters, etc.), and analytical instruments (ICP-MS, LC-MS, HPLC etc.).
• Knowledge of commonly used experimental/research concepts, practices, and procedures.
• General knowledge of computer systems and productivity software.
• General knowledge of project management.
• General knowledge of GMP and GLP procedures.
• Ability to speak, read and write English proficiently.
• Good oral and written communication skills

Salary and Benefits:

• For California, the base salary range for this position is $84,822.85 -$93,000. Compensation for the successful candidate will depend on various factors (e.g., qualifications, education, prior experience, location, etc.).
