Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking a Manager, S4 Pilot Instructors to join our Flight Standards and Training team on-site in Marina, California. In this role, you will build and lead a versatile cadre of ground, simulator, and flight instructors responsible for delivering Joby’s standardized pilot training curriculum. As a key member of our flight operations, you will establish rigorous instructional standards and lead training initiatives for the Joby S4- our all-electric five-seat eVTOL aircraft designed for commercial air taxi service. We are looking for an experienced, FAA-certificated flight instructor who thrives in a fast-paced, innovative environment and is eager to help shape the future of vertical flight.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the ongoing development of the S4 pilot training courseware
• Contribute to the development of a standardized training course for S4 instructor pilots
• Lead and manage a growing team of instructor pilots
• Deliver standardized training modules, including before flight planning and briefing, training in both simulators and in aircraft, and after flight debriefs
• Analyze the performance of trainees and write reports on the findings
• Contribute to internal flight safety and standardization discussions
• Complete all required documentation in accordance with established Company and FAA procedures
• Observe all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company
• Work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required

• 5+ years of experience leading and managing people
• FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate
• Instrument Airplane rating
• A minimum of 1000 hours of pilot-in-command (PIC) flight time
• 2+ years of experience as a military or civilian instructor pilot
• 2+ years as a military or civilian operational, developmental, or production flight test pilot
• Ability to maintain at least a second-class FAA medical certificate
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
• Ability and willingness to work extended hours
• Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally for business purposes
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English

Desired

• FAA-certified flight instructor
• Prior experience developing aviation courseware
• Airplane, Powered-Lift, and Rotorcraft commercial pilot certificate (all three)
• Bachelor’s degree in aviation, engineering, or related discipline

Additional Information

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $158,100 - $258,600/ yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
