The Safety Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all safety programs and policies to ensure a safe working environment for employees, subcontractors, and customers. This role oversees compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations while promoting a strong culture of safety across all roofing operations.


Key Responsibilities

Safety Program Management

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve company-wide safety policies and procedures
  • Lead and manage the company’s safety program for both residential and commercial roofing operations
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations (OSHA and local/state requirements)
  • Maintain and update safety manuals, SOPs, and training materials

Training & Development

  • Conduct new hire safety orientation and ongoing safety training for field and office staff
  • Provide specialized training (fall protection, ladder safety, PPE, equipment use, etc.)
  • Mentor supervisors and crew leaders on safety best practices
  • Organize and lead regular safety meetings and toolbox talks

Field Safety Oversight

  • Perform regular job site inspections and audits
  • Identify hazards and implement corrective actions
  • Ensure proper use of PPE, fall protection systems, and equipment
  • Work closely with project managers and foremen to enforce safety standards

Incident Management

  • Investigate accidents, injuries, and near-misses
  • Complete incident reports and root cause analysis
  • Develop and implement corrective and preventative measures
  • Manage workers’ compensation claims and return-to-work programs

Compliance & Reporting

  • Maintain OSHA logs and required documentation
  • Serve as the primary contact for safety inspections and audits
  • Track and report safety metrics (TRIR, incident rates, etc.)
  • Ensure proper licensing, certifications, and training records are current

Culture & Leadership

  • Promote a proactive safety culture across the organization
  • Partner with leadership to integrate safety into daily operations
  • Recognize and reward safe work practices
  • Act as a trusted advisor to leadership on safety-related matters

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of safety management experience (construction or roofing preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards
  • Experience with fall protection systems and roofing-specific hazards
  • OSHA 30-hour certification required (OSHA 500 preferred)
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to work in both office and field environments

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to climb ladders and access rooftops
  • Comfortable working at heights
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Willingness to travel between job sites as needed
