Job Overview

The Seasonal Gardener provides positive transformative guest experience by assisting Kingwood’s gardening staff in fostering their garden areas. This includes assisting in planting, weeding, mulching, watering as well as interacting with the public and volunteers as they visit the garden. The seasonal gardener will work on rotation with regular garden staff in providing weekend coverage of plant needs in the garden.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Carry out typical garden tasks such as planting, watering, weeding, pruning, deadheading, and mulching
• Operate necessary equipment, such as blowers, tillers, and utility vehicles
• Utilize garden tools and perform heavy manual labor in all weather conditions
• Routine irrigation maintenance and monitoring
• Always work with gardening safety and best practices in mind
• Provide positive guest engagement through informal interactions with the public
• Work alongside volunteers to provide garden care
• Continue to build and advance personal gardening knowledge
• All other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Regularly lift 35 to 50 pounds
• Prolonged periods of continuous standing, sitting, or walking along with occasional stooping, bending, reaching, crouching
• Must be able to move around garden in all weather conditions
• Ability to work interpedently or under supervision while being productive and making efficient use of time
• Ability to prioritize work amongst competing set of tasks
• Detail focused
• Maintain a positive attitude to foster a productive and welcoming environment for staff and guests
• Ability to relate to and work with people of all ages, diverse backgrounds, skills and abilities

Qualifications

• A minimum of 1 year of horticulture, gardening, or other related experience preferred
• Other combinations of education/experience appropriate to the job will be considered
• Knowledge of plants, gardens, and gardening practices preferred
• Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License
• Must pass a background check
• Must pass drug test
