Senior Accountant

Kraken Robotics is currently recruiting for a Senior Accountant to join our Aberdeen, Scotland Office.

The Senior Accountant is responsible for delivering accurate and timely financial accounting, month-end closing, reporting, reconciliations, and financial control activities. The role supports the Financial Controller and wider Finance team in maintaining the integrity of financial information, meeting statutory and regulatory requirements, and improving finance processes. The role typically operates with a high degree of autonomy and is expected to identify issues, resolve accounting matters, and provide reliable financial insight to stakeholders.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITES

Financial Accounting

• Perform month-end and year-end close activities.
• Prepare journals, invoices, accruals, prepayments, provisions, and balance-sheet reconciliations.
• Ensure accuracy of cashbook & reconciliations.
• Maintain Accounts Receivable and debt collections.
• Maintain accurate general ledger records.
• Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies.
• Ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with IFRS, and company accounting policies, as applicable.

Financial Control

• Maintain effective balance-sheet controls and reconciliation processes.
• Review financial postings and supporting documentation.
• Identify control weaknesses and recommend corrective actions.
• Support internal and external audit activities.
• Ensure appropriate documentation and audit trails are maintained.

Statutory & Regulatory Accounting

• Support preparation of statutory accounts and year-end reporting.
• Assist with corporation tax, VAT, and other statutory requirements.
• Ensure compliance with relevant UK accounting and financial reporting requirements.

Reporting & Analysis

• Identify variances against budget, forecast, and prior periods.
• Investigate material movements and provide explanations to management.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.

Process Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting.
• Support automation and standardization initiatives.
• Develop and maintain accounting procedures and documentation.
• Contribute to finance transformation and system implementation projects.

Stakeholder Management

• Work closely with Finance, FP&A, Procurement, Payroll, Tax, Operations, and other business functions.
• Provide accounting guidance to colleagues and non-finance stakeholders.
• Communicate financial issues clearly and escalate significant risks appropriately.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Qualified accountant or actively studying towards a professional qualification.
• Requires 5–7 years' relevant accounting experience due to complexity of the role.
• Strong experience in month-end and financial close processes.
• Experience preparing and reviewing balance-sheet reconciliations.
• Good understanding of UK accounting principles and financial controls.
• Experience with ERP/accounting systems (NetSuite preferred) and advanced Excel skills.
• Experience working with auditors and supporting statutory reporting.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
