Join the Clinical Coding team at Pindara Private Hospital, located centrally on the beautiful Gold Coast, as a Full-Time Senior Clinical Coder. 

Reporting to the Coding Manager and working within a supportive and collaborative team environment, you will play a pivotal role in undertaking accurate, comprehensive and timely clinical coding for the hospital. With competitive remuneration negotiable based on experience, this is a great opportunity to join a team that values accuracy, professional development and continued learning.

About You

You are an experienced Clinical Coder with a strong understanding of clinical coding principles and a commitment to accuracy, quality and continuous improvement.

You have excellent analytical and attention-to-detail skills and are confident interpreting complex clinical documentation. You are able to work independently while also contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.

You are committed to maintaining your coding knowledge and keeping up to date with changes to Australian Coding Standards, classification requirements and clinical coding practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake accurate, comprehensive and timely clinical coding of patient records.
• Review clinical documentation and assign appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes.
• Apply Australian Coding Standards and relevant coding guidelines.
• Ensure clinical coding is accurate, complete and compliant with relevant requirements.
• Apply knowledge of Australian Refined Diagnosis Related Groups (AR-DRG).
• Support accurate clinical data collection and reporting.
• Interpret complex clinical documentation to determine appropriate coding.
• Identify documentation or coding issues and seek clarification where required.
• Maintain a high level of coding accuracy and data integrity.
• Work collaboratively with the Coding Manager and broader Clinical Coding team.
• Maintain confidentiality and privacy when handling patient and clinical information.
• Keep up to date with changes to coding standards, classifications and industry requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and the development of coding practices.
• Support quality improvement and compliance activities within the Clinical Coding team.
• Assist with mentoring and supporting less experienced clinical coding staff where required.
• Participate in ongoing education and professional development.

You Will Also Bring

• Minimum 5 years' experience in clinical coding, preferably within a hospital environment.
• A recognised clinical coding qualification, such as HIMAA, tertiary Health Information Management qualification or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of Australian Coding Standards and AR-DRG.
• Sound understanding of private health funding models and their relationship to clinical coding.
• Demonstrated ability to accurately and efficiently code complex clinical records.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Strong understanding of confidentiality and privacy requirements when handling patient information.
• Commitment to maintaining current coding knowledge and continuously improving clinical coding practice.
• A proactive approach to professional development and continuous learning.
