About this role

Aledade is seeking a Senior Counsel to join our Privacy Team, reporting to our Privacy Officer and Associate General Counsel. The ideal candidate will work independently to advise on privacy risk, own key privacy verticals end-to-end, and serve as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders on evolving privacy and AI regulatory issues. The successful candidate must bring strong legal judgment, confidence using AI tools to work efficiently, and enthusiasm for advising the business on emerging AI laws and governance frameworks.

What You’ll Do:

  • Independently manage and own discrete privacy verticals, driving projects from issue-spotting through resolution with minimal oversight.
  • Provide clear, practical, and business-oriented legal advice to internal stakeholders on privacy laws applicable to U.S. healthcare organizations, including HIPAA, state privacy and data breach notification laws, and other applicable federal and state requirements.
  • Advise business, product, and engineering teams on the use of artificial intelligence, including applicable AI-specific laws and regulations, AI governance frameworks, and responsible AI practices.
  • Provide support to our internal commercial contracting team, acting as a subject matter expert for escalated review of privacy-related provisions in vendor agreements, data use agreements, and business associate agreements.
  • Support the development and maintenance of privacy policies, procedures, and training materials.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Compliance, Security, IT, and business teams to identify privacy risks and implement practical, risk-based solutions.
  • Monitor developments in privacy and AI law and proactively communicate implications to relevant stakeholders.
  • Support responses to privacy incidents, regulatory inquiries, and audits as needed.
  • Use AI tools thoughtfully and effectively in day-to-day legal work to improve efficiency, quality, and turnaround time.

    • What We’re Looking For:

  • J.D. and active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, in good standing.
  • Minimum of 6 years of total legal experience, including at least 2 years at a law firm with substantive privacy or healthcare regulatory work.
  • Prior experience advising healthcare organizations or clients on privacy, regulatory, or compliance matters is required.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA and other U.S. privacy laws applicable to healthcare entities; familiarity with emerging state and federal AI laws is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and exercise sound judgment with limited supervision.
  • A self-starter mindset with a genuine willingness to take ownership of projects and privacy verticals, rather than waiting for direction.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance for non-lawyers.
  • Comfort and enthusiasm using AI tools (e.g., generative AI, legal research and drafting assistants) as part of a daily legal workflow.
  • Interest in and willingness to advise on AI governance and AI-related legal and regulatory issues as they intersect with privacy.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build trust with stakeholders across legal, compliance, product, and business teams.

    • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certifications such as Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP), Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), or Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP).
  • Familiarity with privacy program frameworks (e.g., NIST Privacy Framework) and/or AI governance frameworks (e.g., NIST AI RMF).
  • Prior in-house experience, particularly within the healthcare or health tech industry.
