Senior Data Engineer (Fabric, Databricks & Cloud Data Platforms)

We are looking for a Johannesburg-based Senior Data Engineer with deep Microsoft Fabric and Databricks expertise to help design and deliver modern, scalable data platforms for enterprise clients. This role will be onsite in Sandton.

Requirements

What You'll Be Doing

• Design and build scalable Microsoft Fabric and Databricks data platforms

• Lead SQL modernisation and migration from SQL Server to Fabric/Databricks

• Build ETL/ELT pipelines using PySpark, Python, and SQL

• Implement Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and Purview governance

• Design lakehouse and medallion architectures (Bronze/Silver/Gold)

• Build semantic models and support Power BI reporting

• Apply Kimball dimensional modelling best practices

• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical best practices

Essential Skills

• Microsoft Fabric

• Databricks (Unity Catalog preferred)

• Spark / PySpark

• SQL Server / T-SQL

• Delta Lake / Delta Tables

• Lakehouse architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold)

• Semantic modelling / Power BI

• Kimball dimensional modelling

• CI/CD practices

• Azure data services (Synapse, ADF, OneLake, Purview)

• AWS data platforms (Glue, S3, Redshift)

Minimum Experience

• 8+ years in Data Engineering

• 3+ years hands-on Databricks delivery

• Proven track record in data migration and modernisation

• Consulting or client-facing experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent
