Senior Data Scientist

Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI) was founded in September 2019 to serve as the driver of research and innovation in the digital sphere of Kazakhstan with the focus on AI research. 

ISSAI aims to develop a national capacity for research in Artificial Intelligence incorporating the experience of exemplars from Asia, Europe and the United States.

ISSAI provides an agile framework for research, innovation and collaboration with national and international partners in education, industry and government and contributes to the digital ecosystem of Kazakhstan in the advancement of national development goals.

Senior Data Scientist performs the following duties and responsibilities:

1. utilization of specified machine learning and deep learning models;

2. lead, mentor, and manage a team of data scientists and researchers to deliver impactful AI projects;

3. foster a collaborative and innovative culture, encouraging the team to explore new methodologies and technologies;

4. oversee the development and deployment of scalable machine learning models and algorithms;

5. conduct exploratory data analysis and model evaluation to direct research efforts;

6. author and contribute to research publications, presenting findings at conferences and workshops;

7. collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate AI solutions with domain-specific knowledge;

8. communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively;

9. partner with external organizations, universities, or consortia to drive collaborative research projects;

10. stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI and machine learning, incorporating relevant technologies and methodologies;

11. put machine learning and deep algorithms into practice;

12. provide reports about model performances;

13. transfer knowledge including practical skills, methods and techniques; 

14. contribute to the preparation of proposals and applications to external bodies, e.g. for funding and accreditation purposes;

15. promote and market the work of the Institute in the subject area both nationally and internationally;

16. participation in identification, evaluation, management and monitoring of risks within the framework of supervised direction;

Qualifications

Higher-professional, preferable from the higher education institutions with English language of instruction;

Preferably PhD degree in Computer Science, Machine learning  or equivalent.

Priority specializations:

-    Computer Science;

-    Artificial Intelligence;

-    Mathematics;

-    Robotics or equivalent.

No less than 5 years of professional experience.

Additional Information

Required skills: 

- knowledge of the development of machine learning and deep learning models;

- knowledge of Linux operating system software and related equipment;

- knowledge of machine learning;

- knowledge of the development of algorithms and models of artificial intelligence;

- knowledge of MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint;

- knowledge of development in the Linux environment;

- fluency in English, Kazakh and Russian languages.

- skills for collecting, cleaning, pre-processing data;

- good programming skills;

- expertise in NLP and/or CV;

- skills to recognize and evaluate artificial intelligence models;

- strong communication skills.
