Your New Role...

Location Note: This position is based in Hong Kong and is part of CNN’s Asia-Pacific newsroom, supporting coverage of U.S. politics and national news. Candidates applying from outside Hong Kong should be willing to relocate.

CNN is seeking an ambitious and dynamic Senior Editor to join our Asia-Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong, covering US politics and national news.

This role sits at the intersection of US and international news and is responsible for helping to shape the world's biggest and most consequential stories for US audiences as they wake up each day.

The successful candidate will be able to quickly distill and frame complex ideas, bringing a deep understanding of the White House, Congress and US national elections, as well as a strong eye for creative national and international storytelling opportunities.

The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven news environment, ensuring major editorial priorities are seamlessly aligned across desks and time zones.

In this role, you will cover everything from campaign trail announcements to US foreign policy-related issues with accuracy and speed, responding in real time to unexpected developments and US National breaking news.

The role requires exceptional editorial judgment and demonstrated versatility within a leading digital-first news outlet, with the ability to work across digital and video-first platforms and ensure our highest-impact content is expertly optimized for every format and screen.

Although the role is based in Asia-Pacific, you will work as part of a global, 24/7 digital-first, cross-platform team, providing a critical editorial link between CNN's US and Europe operations.

The Daily...

• Working within a team of world-class digital-first reporters, video producers and editors to deliver breaking US politics news to a multiplatform audience.

• Identifying and editing breaking news with clarity, context and urgency.

• Operating as a key editorial link between CNN's US and EMEA hubs.

• Helping to set up the morning for CNN's US audience, advancing overnight politics stories and ensuring a sophisticated mix of high-impact content greets US readers, viewers and subscribers as they wake up.

• Moving between different story formats, including video, and taking the lead in delivering minute-by-minute updates on CNN's live stories.

• Ensuring all journalism produced adheres to CNN's standards and editorial integrity.

Qualifications & Experience...

• Minimum 5 years editing and reporting breaking news at a leading digital-first media outlet

• Deep knowledge and experience covering US news, with a background in editing or reporting on national politics or major political campaigns

• Sharp news judgment with a natural ability to think in headlines and frame complex stories, especially for a waking US morning audience

• Comfortable working under pressure and to tight deadlines

• Willingness to work weekends

• A curiosity to keep learning, to think critically and a strong desire to make CNN's coverage reflective of the world we cover

• Perfect grasp of written and spoken English

• Self-starter with a history of delivering outstanding journalism
