Senior Healthcare Interface Engineer (Remote Opportunity)

We are currently looking for a Senior Healthcare Integration Engineer for a 100% remote position supporting a large federal government healthcare modernization project. This role designs and supports integrations across EHR, claims, public-health, and partner systems using HL7 v2, MLLP gateways, Apache NiFi, and Open Integration Engine.

The engineer works autonomously on complex, project-level goals and collaborates with architects, FHIR engineers, developers, testers, onboarding teams, and external partners.

The candidate must reside within the continental US.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement secure, scalable integrations among healthcare applications, data sources, and external systems.
• Engineer and configure MLLP gateways, Apache NiFi pipelines, Open Integration Engine adapters, and healthcare interfaces.
• Develop and support bidirectional CHIE and partner exchange integrations for EHR, claims, and public-health feeds.
• Evaluate existing systems, interface requirements, and data flows to define integration solutions.
• Perform data mapping, transformation, message routing, interface configuration, testing, and production support.
• Troubleshoot complex interface and data-flow issues and document technical solutions with cross-functional teams.
• Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support team objectives and ensure the success of the project.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 10 or more years of related software integration engineering experience.
• Experience developing healthcare interfaces using HL7 v2 and MLLP.
• Experience configuring Apache NiFi pipelines and Open Integration Engine adapters.
• Strong skills in data mapping, transformation, message routing, and complex interface troubleshooting.
• Ability to communicate technical requirements and findings clearly to internal teams and external partners.
• Ability to work autonomously and collaborate across architecture, engineering, testing, and onboarding teams.

Additional Qualifications

• Experience with Java, scripting, XML, JSON, SQL, and API integration.
• Experience integrating EHR, claims, public-health, HIE, or CHIE data.
• Experience supporting federal Health IT programs, including VA, DHA, or HHS.

Security Clearance Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• All selected candidates must successfully complete a background check.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Government/Public Trust clearance, including required fingerprinting, when required for the position.
