Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Legal Counsel to provide strategic legal leadership across our group entities and international operations. This role will cover contract drafting, regulatory compliance, licensing for Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs), data protection, and labor law, while ensuring the group’s adherence to applicable laws and supporting its business objectives.

The Senior Legal Counsel will work closely with senior management and external stakeholders to safeguard the organization’s interests across multiple jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities

• Anticipate and address complex legal issues, assess risks, and provide strategic guidance to senior management.
• Oversee legal compliance across group entities, ensuring alignment with regulatory frameworks in all jurisdictions.
• Provide legal and compliance support for corporate governance documents, policies, and procedures for City Pay and its affiliates.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements, including high-value and bespoke contracts critical to business operations.
• Ensure compliance with local and international regulatory requirements, with a focus on VASPs and financial services providers.
• Lead licensing processes for VASPs, including documentation preparation, regulatory liaison, and compliance strategy.
• Manage data protection compliance, including privacy policies, data processing agreements, and cross-border data transfer matters.
• Advise on labor law matters, including employment contracts, workplace policies, dispute resolution, and compliance with employee rights.
• Support litigation management, including representation before courts, regulatory bodies, and other authorities.
• Collaborate with and oversee external counsels.
• Provide strategic guidance on intellectual property matters, including trademarks, copyrights, and patents.
• Coordinate with legal teams and external advisors across jurisdictions to resolve cross-border legal and regulatory challenges.
• Develop and deliver training programs to ensure employees are informed of legal and compliance obligations.
• Stay updated on legal developments in cryptocurrency, virtual assets, data protection, and labor law, and advise on their implications for the group.
  

Qualifications

• Law degree (LLB, or equivalent); advanced qualifications in financial regulation, compliance, or data protection are an advantage.
• Minimum 5+ years of professional legal experience, preferably within financial services, fintech, or VASP environments.
• Strong expertise in regulatory compliance, licensing, and corporate governance.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex contracts, litigation, and multi-jurisdictional legal issues.
• In-depth knowledge of data protection and labor law frameworks.
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and support decision-making at a group level.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, international environment.
