Senior Test & Validation Engineer

The Senior Test & Validation Engineer is responsible for cell and pack level validation of BorgWarner LFP battery systems, supporting program delivery for nominated customers and the future new business opportunity pipeline. The role owns validation execution from test planning through reporting, including cell testing and pack DV/PV. The role is also accountable for the daily operation of the battery test lab, covering test facilities, equipment readiness, sample management and lab safety, so that the lab runs safely, efficiently and in compliance with internal and external standards to meet program milestones. Working closely with system, cell, design and prototype teams, the engineer feeds validation results into design iterations early, reduces technical risk before industrialization, and helps reduce reliance on external test resources.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities 　 　 　 　 　 　 　 　 　 • Plan, prepare and execute cell and pack level validation per approved test specifications, including performance, durability and homologation tests (e.g., UN 38.3, ECE-R10, ECE-R100, DNV).
• Lead cell validation including incoming inspection, characterization and evaluation of cell quality issues together with the cell supplier.
• Drive pack DV/PV validation for nominated customer, aligned with B/C sample, design freeze and SOP milestones.
• Coordinate with system, cell and design teams to align test scope, feasibility, timing and resource needs.
• Make sure validation findings are captured, analyzed and fed into design iterations to reduce risk before industrialization.
• Coordinate with external test laboratories and customers; manage outsourced test scope, schedules, cost and deliverables.
• Manage daily lab operations, including test execution, sample management and traceability, to ensure safety, quality and compliance with internal and external standards.
• Manage test equipment and facilities, including calibration, maintenance and readiness for validation activities.
• Coordinate material flow and inventory for validation activities so components, samples and consumables are available on time.
• Prepare test reports and validation status updates for project teams, management and customers. Requirements / Qualifications 　 　 　 　 　 　 　 　 　 • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Electrochemical or Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in battery test and validation, preferably at cell and pack level for e-mobility especailly commercial vehicle or ESS applications.
• Solid understanding of Li-ion battery technology (LFP/NMC), including cell characteristics, pack architecture, BMS functions and failure modes.
• Hands-on experience in planning and executing DV/PV validation, including performance, durability, environmental, mechanical and abuse/safety tests.
• Familiarity with battery test standards and regulations, such as UN 38.3, ISO 12405, IEC 62619/62660, GB 38031 and ECE R100.
• Experience in battery test lab operations, including test equipment (cyclers, climate chambers, cooling system, data acquisition system), calibration, maintenance and sample management.
• Strong awareness of lab safety for high-voltage and lithium-ion battery testing; high-voltage electrical work qualification is a plus.
• Experience working with external test laboratories and managing outsourced test scope, schedule and deliverables.
• Proficient in test data analysis and reporting; experience with CANoe/CANalyzer.
• Fluent in English and Chinese; able to work with global teams and customers. German or other language is a plus.
• Structured, hands-on and self-driven, with good communication and cross-functional coordination skills.
