AI Summary
Builds Python services, React interfaces, and AI-powered workflows on Dawson's private equity platform, shipping production features and dashboards for investment professionals.
About this role
Software Developer Intern (Summer 2027)
Most interns build features. You'll build the technology that moves billions in private equity capital.
Dawson Partners (“Dawson”), based in Toronto, is a fast-growing private equity firm focused on accelerating liquidity on private equity portfolios through structured solutions. Dawson seeks to provide customized and flexible liquidity solutions for private equity investors through the use of structured solutions with existing investors or outright purchases of portfolios which are subsequently structured into different securities. Dawson currently has over $30.0B assets under management.
The Technology & Data team is seeking a Software Developer Intern starting in May 2027 with our Toronto office. As a Software Developer Intern, you'll own real features on production systems from your first week, whether that's a React interface used by investment professionals, a Python service powering portfolio analytics, or an AI-powered workflow that didn't exist before you built it. You'll also get a window into private equity that most tech interns never see, including firm-wide team meetings and investment committee discussions.
Job Responsibilities:
- Design and build Python services and APIs that power Dawson's platform, plus the React interfaces investment professionals use to access them.
- Design retrieval pipelines, orchestrate multi-step agent workflows, and build the services that put LLMs into production against real financial data.
- Own features from design to deployment, writing clean, well-tested code across the frontend, backend, and data layers of Dawson's platform.
- Ship interactive dashboards and data visualizations that turn complex portfolio data into clear, actionable views for stakeholders.
- Collaborate directly with senior engineers, product managers, and investment team members, participating in code reviews, design discussions, and sprint planning.
- Experiment with emerging AI tools. We actively use LLMs and AI-assisted development across the team, and you'll be encouraged to push what's possible.
Education/Certification:
- Exceptional academic record.
- Extracurricular leadership.
- Expected graduation in 2027 (or 2028).
What You Bring:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong fundamentals in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or both (we work across the full stack).
- Experience building something end-to-end, whether that's a React app, a REST API, a data pipeline, or a personal project that pulls it all together.
- Experience with popular coding agents (Claude Code, Codex etc) and their latest recommended practices.
- A portfolio, side project, or open-source contribution that shows how you think and build.
- Curiosity about financial markets, private equity, or how technology transforms traditional industries.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with Python backend frameworks (FastAPI, Flask, Django) and SQL.
- Experience with React, Next.js, or modern frontend frameworks.
- Personal projects using LLM APIs, AI agents, RAG pipelines, or prompt engineering.
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) or data engineering concepts.
- Contributions to hackathons, open-source, or technical communities.
