What to do:

• Design and extend transpiler/compiler components (ANTLR4 grammars, lexers, parsers, AST/IR models) that translate legacy Natural source code into modern Java (Spring Boot) applications, ensuring generated output is correct, idiomatic, and enterprise-architecture compliant.

• Develop and maintain the translation pipeline in Java: AST-to-IR mappers, IR-to-Java lowering passes, code generators (Spring services, repositories, DTOs), and REST APIs that expose transpilation as a service.

• Define and validate translation correctness by writing unit and integration tests against representative source fixtures and verifying that generated Java code compiles and behaves as expected.

• Diagnose and fix defects surfaced during transpilation (e.g., malformed generated code, incorrect type or naming mappings) by tracing root causes through the pipeline

• Support build, integration, and operational readiness for the transpiler service: Maven build health, CI pipeline stability, source-control integration, and troubleshooting for downstream teams consuming generated projects.

Requirements

You check these boxes:

• Professional experience in Java development; comfortable working in a Spring Boot codebase.

• Solid understanding of software design principles, algorithms, and data structures.

• Experience with REST APIs and service integration.

• Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills, especially reasoning through multi-stage data pipelines

• Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows (branches, PRs, code review).

• Familiarity with automated testing (JUnit or similar) and quality assurance practices.

• Understanding of secure software development practices.

• Ability to work effectively with architects and stakeholders, including reading and reasoning about unfamiliar or legacy source languages.

Nice to have:

• Experience with ANTLR4 (or another parser generator), lexers, parsers, grammars, and Abstract Syntax Trees.

• Experience building or maintaining source-to-source transpilers, compilers, or static analysis tools.

• Experience with intermediate representations (IR) and multi-pass lowering/transformation pipelines.

• Familiarity with legacy mainframe languages (Natural/Adabas, COBOL, or similar) is a plus but not required.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and scripting for build/test automation.

• Familiarity with cloud-native/containerized environments.

• Knowledge of ITIL-based operational processes and production support/monitoring concepts.

• A competitive and performance-related salary dependent on your professional and personal qualifications is granted - the minimum wage for this position in accordance with the respective collective agreement is EUR 51.134,- gross per year.
