About the opportunity

Within QIAGEN Digital Insights, we develop innovative solutions that help researchers and clinicians analyse, interpret, and report complex biological and genomic data.

Our clinical genomics platform enables healthcare and life science professionals to transform large-scale genomic and biomedical datasets into actionable insights. Built on scalable cloud-native technologies, robust data pipelines, and intuitive user experiences, the platform supports critical scientific and clinical workflows worldwide.

As a Software Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, enhancing, and maintaining data-intensive applications that directly support advancements in healthcare and diagnostics. Working as part of an international engineering team, you will contribute to architectural decisions, improve system performance, and help shape the future of our products.

Your tasks:

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using Java and Spring Boot.

• Analyse existing applications and propose improvements to architecture, scalability, performance, and maintainability.

• Build and support data-intensive services that process large volumes of scientific and clinical data.

• Collaborate with Product Managers, Software Engineers, and Data Teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

• Contribute to technical design discussions and promote engineering best practices.

• Review code, share knowledge, and support continuous improvement across the development team.

• Occasionally contribute to front-end development using Angular and TypeScript.

Your profile:

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in software development with a strong backend focus.

• Strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot/Spring MVC.

• Experience designing and developing REST APIs; exposure to GraphQL is considered an advantage.

• Solid knowledge of PostgreSQL and relational database design.

• Strong understanding of software design patterns, data structures, and performance optimisation techniques.

• Excellent communication skills in English and a proactive, ownership-driven approach to problem solving.

• *Expected presence onsite to work from the Cluj-Napoca office, Romania, for 3 days per week.

Nice to have:

• Experience working with healthcare, biotechnology, life sciences, or scientific data platforms.

• Knowledge of Angular and TypeScript.

• Experience working within distributed international teams.

• Exposure to cloud-native architectures and large-scale data processing systems.
