About the role:

You'll build the middleware connecting Salmon's ATM fleet to backend systems, as we scale from a pilot network to thousands of machines across the Philippines.

What you'll do:

• You'll work on real-time transaction flows between ATM hardware and Salmon's backend, handling authorization, reversals, and reconciliation as the fleet scales from pilot to thousands of machines.

• You'll integrate directly with an HSM for PIN translation, key management, and cryptographic operations — core to how every transaction stays secure.

• You'll work closely with hardware, infrastructure, security, compliance, and vendor teams (SmartDico, the processing switch) to keep the ATM stack running end to end.

What you'll own:

• Design, build, and maintain backend services for the ATM middleware platform

• Own ISO 8583 message flows between the ATM fleet and the processing switch, including authorization, reversals, and reconciliation

• Integrate with the HSM for PIN translation, key management, and cryptographic operations

• Build and maintain integrations with card schemes and the ATM middleware vendor

• Improve APIs and system integrations across the ATM stack, including anti-fraud and core banking connections

• Support production monitoring, incident investigation, and resolution for ATM transaction services

What makes you a strong fit:

• 3+ years of experience as a Backend Engineer with production experience in Kotlin, ideally in fintech, banking, or payment processing

• Experience with microservice architecture, API design, and building system integrations from scratch

• Knowledge of ISO 8583 or similar financial messaging protocols

• Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS/EKS), containerized deployments, and GitLab/GitOps CI/CD pipelines

• Strong SQL skills for data analysis and validation

• English level B2 or higher, with strong written and verbal communication
