Role Overview
As an Engineering Manager at Omise, you will lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of software engineers dedicated to building and scaling our core payment gateway integrations and transaction processing systems.
You will balance technical leadership with people management—ensuring your team writes clean, maintainable Java code while driving the execution of robust batch processing and microservices architectures.
What you will be doing
Technical Leadership
- Oversee the design, development, and testing of highly secure, scalable software components related to payment gateway integrations and core transaction processing.
- Ensure the team writes clean, well-structured, and maintainable Java code by enforcing strict code reviews, design pattern standards, and robust testing methodologies.
- Take operational ownership of large-scale batch processing and scheduled job systems. Champion strategies for handling job failures, retries, concurrency, and performance optimization.
- Allocate work to team members, track progress, and mitigate risks to ensure timely project delivery.
- Guide the team in troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues and production bottlenecks.
- Facilitate agile ceremonies (sprint planning, standups, retrospectives) to maintain an efficient, predictable delivery cadence.
People Leadership & Team Development
- Guide a team of 6 backend engineers, conducting regular 1-on-1s, providing constructive feedback, and supporting their career growth.
- Promote a collaborative, high-standard engineering culture focused on code quality, continuous learning, and modern development practices (including AI-assisted development tools).
- Assist in hiring, onboarding, and scaling the engineering team to meet business objectives.
You
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in engineering management, tech leadership, or team lead roles, alongside 7+ years of hands-on software development experience.
- Exceptional written and spoken English fluency, with a proven ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical work experience).
- Deep proficiency in Java and core object-oriented programming principles, design patterns, and SQL databases.
- Expert-level understanding of the Spring Framework, Spring Data JPA, and Hibernate.
- Strong advocate for automated testing, with familiarity in unit testing (JUnit, Mockito) and integration testing (REST Assured, JMeter).
Nice to Have
- Batch Processing Expertise: Hands-on experience designing and supporting large-scale batch processing and scheduled job systems using Spring Batch and cron frameworks.
- Prior experience with payment gateway integrations, payment industry standards (e.g., PCI-DSS), and secure processing protocols.
- Experience building and scaling Microservices architecture and deploying to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Next-Gen Engineering: Familiarity with leveraging AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate team velocity and code quality.
