SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant obtains and processes financial data for use in maintaining accounting records for the Prairie Island Indian Community. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule after six (6) months of satisfactory job performance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
The following duties and responsibilities are not meant to be all inclusive and may be adjusted to meet business needs.
- Create recurring journal entries monthly
- Assist in processing journal entries into the accounting system daily
- Prepare bank reconciliations for bank accounts
- Scan forms and documents
- Assist in processing tribal loans to Tribal members weekly
- Learn the accounts payable system to assist during employee absences
- Learn the payroll system to assist during employee absences
- Review of Dakota Station daily revenues and various reports
- Maintain monthly grant reporting spreadsheets
- Prepare invoices as needed
- Review and reconcile general ledger accounts monthly
- Create and send monthly department budget reports to the directors and managers
- Enter the annual budget into the accounting system annually
- Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIRE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s degree in accounting or related field
- Minimum of two (2) years related experience with payroll, accounting systems, computers and spreadsheets
- High attention to detail and excellent time management skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to maintain strict standards of confidentiality
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong computer skills Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision
- Ability to work well within the existing team and government structure
- Sensitive to Native American Culture
- Must pass drug screen (UA) and a criminal background check
- Valid driver’s license and proof of insurability
PREFERRED:
- ADP software experience
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time with occasional amounts of standing or walking
REQUIRED TRAINING:
- Effectively Handling Harassment training
- Any position-related training as determined by department manager
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is performed primarily in an office setting, but may include occasional outdoor activities
