Staff Software Developer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Software Developer based in Canada.

As a Staff Software Developer, you’ll lead through hands-on technical excellence while remaining deeply connected to the codebase and development team.
You’ll tackle complex engineering challenges, design scalable systems, and deliver production-quality software that improves products and platform reliability.
The role combines deep individual contribution with broad technical influence through mentorship, architecture guidance, reusable tooling, and engineering standards.
You’ll work across distributed systems and modern cloud infrastructure, collaborating closely with product, design, and engineering teams.
AI-enabled development practices will help you investigate difficult problems, automate workflows, improve reliability, and accelerate delivery.
You’ll also contribute to developer productivity and system performance while helping teams make sound technical decisions.

• Own complex technical challenges and architect scalable, performant, and reliable solutions.
• Write clean, maintainable, production-quality code using technologies such as Go, Scala, TypeScript, React, and GraphQL.
• Diagnose and resolve complex production issues across distributed systems, identifying root causes and implementing lasting fixes.
• Partner with product managers, designers, and engineers to deliver features that provide meaningful customer value.
• Apply AI-enabled engineering techniques, intelligent tooling, automation, and data-informed debugging to solve complex problems and improve delivery.
• Lead by example through code reviews, technical guidance, mentorship, and promotion of strong development and testing practices.
• Identify and implement improvements across the codebase, systems, infrastructure, and developer workflows.
• Collaborate across teams to maintain consistency in implementation, performance, reliability, and user experience.
• Create reusable tools, libraries, frameworks, and other solutions that improve developer productivity.
• Share technical context, review designs, and help unblock other engineers.
• Contribute to observability and operational excellence through logging, tracing, metrics, and alerting practices.
• Address performance bottlenecks and scalability challenges in high-traffic systems.

Requirements:

• Extensive hands-on software engineering experience with a strong track record of solving complex technical problems through code.
• Deep knowledge of system design, software architecture, clean coding practices, debugging, and production engineering.
• Experience building and operating scalable, high-traffic or distributed systems.
• Strong proficiency in one or more relevant programming languages, particularly Go, Scala, or TypeScript.
• Familiarity with modern observability practices and tools for logging, tracing, metrics collection, and alerting, such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, or Datadog.
• Experience building developer tooling, frameworks, or reusable engineering solutions that improve development velocity.
• Strong understanding of performance optimization, scalability, reliability, and production troubleshooting.
• Practical experience using AI-enabled tools and techniques to improve engineering workflows and solve difficult technical challenges.
• Ability to work effectively with product managers, designers, and engineers across functions and teams.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
• Demonstrated mentoring ability through pairing, code reviews, knowledge sharing, and thoughtful technical feedback.
• Self-directed approach with the ability to independently drive projects from initial concept through production delivery.
• Interest in open-source projects, side projects, or other ways of continuously developing technical expertise.
• Familiarity with technologies such as React, GraphQL, Kafka, Kubernetes, and AWS is beneficial.
