Job Purpose
The Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Paramedic Program is responsible for the development of a comprehensive, regulation-aligned curriculum for a Paramedic program. Working in close collaboration with the Director of Curriculum, Quality & Compliance, the SME will design, map, and validate curriculum content to ensure alignment with provincial regulatory requirements, professional and occupational competency standards, industry expectations, and best practices in paramedic education.
The SME will ensure the program prepares graduates with the theoretical knowledge, practical skills, clinical judgment, professional behaviours, and competencies required for entry-to-practice and employment within emergency medical services and related healthcare environments.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and review Paramedic program and course curriculum.
- Create learning outcomes, competencies, lesson materials, and curriculum resources.
- Design theory, lab, simulation, clinical, and field placement components.
- Develop assessments, practical evaluations, skills checklists, and simulation scenarios.
- Map curriculum to applicable entry-to-practice competencies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure curriculum reflects current paramedic practice and evolving industry expectations.
- Support program approval and regulatory submission processes.
- Recommend equipment, simulation, lab, and instructional resource requirements.
- Collaborate with curriculum, academic, regulatory, and industry stakeholders.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Legal status
- Eligibility to work in Canada
- Clear background or criminal record check
Qualifications
- Current or recent professional experience as a Paramedic in Canada.
- Relevant Paramedic education, certification, and professional credentials.
- Current registration or eligibility for registration with the applicable provincial regulatory or oversight body, where required.
- Minimum five (5) years of paramedic practice experience.
Experience and knowledge
- Strong understanding of paramedic entry-to-practice competencies, professional standards, and current emergency medical services practices.
- Experience in paramedic education, curriculum development, or instructional design.
- Experience teaching within a post-secondary or regulated healthcare education program.
- Experience as a preceptor, clinical educator, skills instructor, or simulation facilitator.
- Familiarity with provincial Private Career College regulatory frameworks.
- Experience with program approval, accreditation, or regulatory submissions.
- Experience in curriculum mapping and competency-based education.
