Support Engineer Database MongoDB & Elasticsearch

We are looking for an experienced L2 Support Engineer – Database with strong hands-on expertise in ** MongoDB and Elasticsearch** to join our production support team in Angola or Kenya.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing Level 2 operational and technical support for database and search platforms in a 24/7 production environment. The role requires strong troubleshooting skills, experience managing production incidents, and the ability to identify and resolve performance and availability issues.

Tasks

• Provide L2 production support for MongoDB and Elasticsearch environments.
• Monitor database and platform health, performance, availability and capacity.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database, indexing, connectivity and performance-related issues.
• Perform **MongoDB administration **, including database monitoring, replication, backup/recovery and performance optimisation.
• Support **Elasticsearch administration **, including cluster health, node management, indexing, shards, replicas and performance troubleshooting.
• Investigate and resolve production incidents in accordance with defined **SLAs and operational procedures **.
• Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring or critical incidents and recommend preventative actions.
• Monitor system alerts and proactively identify potential issues before they impact production.
• Perform performance tuning and optimisation across MongoDB and Elasticsearch environments.
• Support database upgrades, configuration changes, maintenance activities and deployments.
• Work with development, infrastructure, cloud and application teams to troubleshoot complex production issues.
• Develop and maintain monitoring, operational and automation scripts to improve support efficiency.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation, troubleshooting guides and operational procedures.
• Participate in the **24/7 rotational support schedule **, including out-of-hours and weekend shifts where required.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of experience in database administration, production support or infrastructure support.
• Strong hands-on experience with **MongoDB administration and troubleshooting **.
• Strong hands-on experience with **Elasticsearch administration and troubleshooting **.
• Proven experience supporting **production environments **.
• Strong understanding of database performance, monitoring and optimisation.
• Experience with **incident management, problem management and root cause analysis **.
• Experience working with monitoring and alerting tools.Experience with automation and scripting for operational/support activities.
• Good understanding of Linux/Unix environments.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure in a **24/7 operational environment **.
• Good communication and collaboration skills.

Desirable

• Experience with MongoDB replication, sharding and backup/recovery.
• Experience with Elasticsearch clusters, shards, replicas and index lifecycle management.
• Knowledge of cloud environments such as **AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud **.
• Experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of DevOps and CI/CD practices.
• Experience with scripting languages such as **Python, Bash or Shell **.
• Relevant MongoDB, Elasticsearch or cloud certifications.
