Description

Are you looking to make a difference in the lives of others, as well as your community? If so, this is the PERFECT opportunity for YOU!

As a Support Partner (DSP) with Values Into Action, you will provide direct support in partnership with a person with a disability, on a one-to-one basis, in his own home and community. Our mission is to help people design and live their best lives and be active members of their communities.

A friendly, easygoing man in Bethlehem, PA is looking for someone to join his team. He's social, has a great sense of humor, and is working toward living more independently. Here's how you would partner with him:

  • Provide transportation to outings, appointments, and places he can't walk to or reach by bus
  • Help him understand and ask questions during doctor visits, and give occasional reminders to refill prescriptions
  • Coach him on budgeting, saving, and planning for the cost of outings
  • Explore jobs, volunteer work, and next steps in his job search
  • Research, plan, and try new community activities together
  • Build everyday skills and confidence
  • Help him stay connected with family

He's looking for someone who is patient, encouraging, and calm, and who celebrates his progress, big and small. He wants a partner who respects his independence and supports him rather than taking over. He also values honesty, flexibility when plans change, and a heads-up about the day's plan.

Do you enjoy hiking, walking, and being outdoors? Bowling or mini golf? Museums, the library, or a trip to a comic book store? Maybe you love horror and action movies, video games, drawing, or trying a new recipe. He'd love to share those interests with you!

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of experience supporting people to live in the community
  • A valid driver's license with a safe driving record

  • Values Into Action encourages all employees to be COVID-19 vaccinated

However, if you share in our mission and vision of full civil rights, inclusion, and self-determination for ALL people, including those with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, we encourage you to apply.
