Surgery- Outpatient Wound Care Clinician-Scientist

Summary of Position

Temple Health is seeking a clinician-scientist with expertise in outpatient wound care to join the Department of Surgery in a unique 60% clinical / 40% research faculty role.

This position offers the opportunity to combine hands-on care of patients with complex wounds and an active research program focused on trauma, wound healing, surgical outcomes, and related areas. The clinical practice is based at Temple's Episcopal Campus and Temple University Hospital, with the research component based within the Department of Surgery.

The Opportunity

Clinical – 60%

Provide comprehensive outpatient care for patients with acute and chronic wounds, including diabetic, venous, arterial, pressure, surgical, and traumatic wounds. The role includes:

• Advanced wound assessment and treatment
• Debridement, negative pressure wound therapy, advanced dressings, and biologic therapies
• Collaboration with vascular surgery, plastic surgery, infectious disease, endocrinology, and other specialties
• Patient and staff education focused on wound prevention and management

Research – 40%

You'll have the opportunity to develop your own research agenda while contributing to the Department of Surgery's broader academic mission. Areas of interest include:

• Trauma and surgical outcomes
• Wound healing and chronic wound management
• Lymphedema and peripheral vascular disease
• Trauma, substance use, recovery, and pain management
• Clinical and translational research across surgical specialties

The role also serves as a faculty liaison for trauma research, helping coordinate and document department-wide trauma research activity in support of Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation (PTSF) requirements. You'll work closely with research coordinators, surgical faculty, and trainees to develop studies, support publications and grants, and expand research participation.

What We're Looking For

• DPT or equivalent terminal clinical doctorate with Pennsylvania licensure or eligibility
• Significant experience in outpatient wound care and advanced wound management
• Demonstrated research productivity, including peer-reviewed publications and experience as a PI or Co-I on funded research
• Experience mentoring students, residents, fellows, or other trainees in research and academic writing
• Strong communication and collaboration skills

Preferred: CWS or equivalent wound care certification; academic faculty experience; research expertise in trauma, wound healing, surgical outcomes, or related areas; experience with trauma-center verification or PTSF/ACS standards; and a record of research funding or professional leadership.
