Technical Project Buyer

AI Summary

Manages technical procurement for bespoke, high-value engineering equipment on a hydrogen technology programme, working with engineers to review specifications, select suppliers and run RFQs through to delivery.

About this role

Enjoy the technical side of procurement, not just the commercial negotiations?
What if you could get involved earlier in engineering projects, influence equipment selection and take ownership of sourcing for an innovative new hydrogen technology?
H-Power is developing its HY5 ammonia cracking technology, designed to produce hydrogen where it's needed.
As the business prepares for commercial deployment, we're looking for an experienced Technical Project Buyer to help turn engineering designs into real, working equipment.
This isn't a transactional purchasing role.
You'll work directly with engineers to understand technical requirements, review drawings and specifications, challenge decisions and identify suppliers capable of delivering complex, often bespoke equipment.
From pressure vessels and valves to specialist mechanical and electrical assemblies, you'll manage procurement across a technically demanding engineering programme.
You'll take ownership of sourcing strategies, RFQs, supplier negotiations and delivery, while helping develop the procurement processes needed to support future products.
It's a role with genuine independence, where your technical understanding and commercial judgement will be valued.
What experience will you need?
You'll have a background in technical procurement within engineering or manufacturing, ideally sourcing bespoke, low-volume or high-value equipment.
You'll be comfortable interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications, working with engineers and managing suppliers from initial enquiry through to delivery.
Experience supporting new product introduction, capital equipment or complex engineering projects would be particularly relevant.
You don't need to be an engineer, but you do need to understand what you're buying and have the confidence to ask the right technical questions.
What's on offer?
  • Competitive salary, dependent on experience

  • Bonus

  • Hybrid working – 4 days on-site, 1 from home

  • Private medical insurance

  • 5% employer pension contribution

  • 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays

  • Company share option scheme, subject to approval
