Transportation Planner

Key Responsibilities

• Lead projects as a Transportation Planner on a variety of transportation planning projects, including complete streets, transit planning, traffic analysis, long-range planning, community planning, and concept design and development
• Create technical reports, presentations, and other materials for stakeholders and clients to document planning study and concept design findings
• Develop informative concepts and quality presentation materials for public meetings and project websites/pages, including GIS StoryMaps and data visualization
• Prepare for, attend, document, and participate in public meetings, both in person and virtually, including facilitating breakout groups
• Perform transportation planning and analysis work related to local, regional, and statewide transportation plans
• Perform GIS analysis
• Support corridor studies
• Perform traffic engineering studies and analysis
• Support travel demand forecasting
• Prepare transportation planning reports
• Support bicycle and pedestrian studies
• Support parking studies
• Support and grow into project planner/engineer roles
• Other duties as assigned

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

• Bachelor’s Degree required
• Master’s Degree preferred
• 5+ years of experience in traffic engineering or transportation planning required
• 10+ years of experience in traffic engineering or transportation planning preferred
• AICP certification or ability to obtain AICP within 12 months preferred

• Experience with GIS, specifically ArcGIS Pro
• Ability to receive direction and execute prioritized tasks
• Responsive to requests from team members and clients
• Ability to write technical memos and reports
• Experience using collaborative software, including Microsoft Teams and Office 365 (Word, Excel, etc.)
• Graphics experience with Adobe Suite preferred
• Experience with CUBE, Vissim, Synchro, or HCS preferred
• Detail oriented and self-starter; can work independently and in a team environment
• Willingness to learn, provide feedback, and receive feedback

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 100% of the time
• Consistently operates a computer and other office equipment such as scanner/printer, paper cutter, laminator, etc.
• Constantly communicates with discipline experts, clients, team members, etc. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
• Must be able to perceive digital software, programs, and websites
