ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s Atlanta, GA office is hiring a Transportation Planning Intern to join the Transportation Systems team for Summer 2027.
This opportunity is ideal for a curious, collaborative student with an interest in transportation planning and a desire to help shape more connected, equitable, and sustainable communities. You’ll support a variety of transportation planning projects that include urban and community planning, multimodal mobility, active transportation, transit, land use, corridor studies, data visualization, spatial analysis, and public engagement.
We’re looking for someone excited to explore how data, design, and public input can inform real-world decisions. Whether your interests are in cities, mobility, GIS, data analytics, sustainability, or public policy, you’ll have opportunities to contribute to meaningful projects and work alongside a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
- Conduct planning assessments using analytical tools such as GIS (Pro and ArcGIS Online) to evaluate data, identify trends, and develop documentation to summarize results
- Assistance with development of support materials for public involvement programs and attendance of public meetings as needed
- Support of project-related documentation for a range of transportation planning studies, grant initiatives, and multi-modal / transit-oriented projects.
- Performance of potential field visits and other on-site project support activities
- Ability to work in person at our Atlanta office at least four days per week, with regular availability during core business hours
Skills and Attributes
- Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
- The ability to manage multiple assignments and work in a team environment
- A strong work ethic with the desire to learn and achieve
- Excellent attention to detail
- Some knowledge and experience in data analysis tools such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and Excel
- Experience with common report and visualization software tools such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and graphics software such as Adobe Creative Suite
Qualifications
- Interest in transportation planning and/or traffic engineering
- Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in planning or related field
VHB does not provide housing for internships.
The hourly pay range for this position, located in Georgia, is $19 to $30. The actual hourly rate offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted hourly range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.
