Deck Cadet Responsibility: The Deck Officer has skills in all aspects of the Navigation of ships, cargo handling operations and storage, ship stability, ship maneuvering and ship management. Navigation today uses both satellite and other electronic means but a fundamental understanding of more traditional techniques is still vital to cope with all possible situations. Seamanship and safety are also of great importance for in spite of all the safeguards allowed by modern technology the sea will forever be a hostile environment. All of these skills will be learned by a mixture of training and practical experience. The ultimate goal of the Deck officer is to become Master of his/her own ship; leadership skills and man management are, therefore, also essential ingredients here.

Engine Cadet Responsibility: Use appropriate tools for fabrication and repair operations typically performed on ship.

2. Use hand tools & measuring equipment for dismantling, maintenance, repair and re-assembly of shipboard plant and equipment.

3. Use hand tools, electrical and electronic measuring and test equipment for fault finding maintenance and repair operations.

4. Maintain a safe Engineering watch

5. Use of English in written and oral form (communication skill and proficiency in marine Vocabulary)

6. Operate main and auxiliary machinery and associated control systems

7. Operate pumping systems and associated control systems.

8. Operate and maintain alternators, generators and control systems

Qualifications

Diploma in Nautical Science & B.Sc. In Nautical Science & GME , Trainee Marine Engg.
