QE Solar, in partnership with Quercus, is seeking Vegetation Field Coordinators to support vegetation management operations at utility-scale solar sites across the Midwest. This position is a hands-on field leadership role responsible for executing and overseeing vegetation maintenance activities including mowing, trimming, herbicide application, and site inspections. The Field Coordinator will lead small crews, ensure safe work practices, and support the successful completion of field operations in a dynamic outdoor environment.
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities
- Field Operations (50–65%)
• Perform vegetation management including mowing, trimming, and site clearing
• Operate equipment such as commercial mowers, string trimmers, ATVs, compact tractors, and skid steers
• Maintain vegetation around solar arrays, fencing, and access roads
- Herbicide Application (15–25%)
• Apply herbicides using backpack sprayers and riding equipment
• Mix and handle herbicides according to safety standards
• Track and document chemical usage
- Equipment Operation & Logistics (Daily)
• Safely operate company trucks and trailers to transport personnel and equipment
• Perform equipment shuttling between job sites
• Utilize defensive driving practices at all times
- Equipment Maintenance & Reporting (10–15%)
• Perform basic troubleshooting, maintenance, and minor repairs
• Monitor equipment condition and escalate issues as needed
• Track and report work progress to leadership
- Leadership & Coordination
• Lead, support, and work alongside vegetation crews
• Conduct safety briefings and identify job hazards
• Adjust work plans based on environmental and site conditions
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and clients
- Training & Miscellaneous (10%)
• Participate in trainings, meetings, and additional assigned tasks
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Strong understanding of outdoor field operations and safety practices
• Ability to identify or learn native and invasive plant species
• Experience using GPS tools, maps, and mobile applications (e.g., OnX)
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing field conditions
• High attention to safety and detail
Required Education and Experience
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Previous experience working independently
• Experience operating trucks and trailers (non-CDL)
• Ability to perform physically demanding work in outdoor environments
Preferred Education and Experience
• Experience leading small crews
• Experience with commercial mowing equipment
• Background in land management or vegetation control
Certifications
Required within 14 days of hire (company-paid):
• OSHA 10-Hour Certification
• Wisconsin Pesticide Applicator License (Category 6.0)
• Non-CDL DOT Certification
Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and pull up to 75 lbs
• Ability to perform repetitive physical labor for extended periods
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, full sun)
• Ability to safely operate heavy equipment and vehicles
Work Environment
• Primarily outdoor work at utility-scale solar sites
• Exposure to varying terrain and weather conditions
• Frequent travel, including overnight stays during the work week
Additional Requirements
• Ability to travel out of state for extended periods (12–24 weeks per year)
• Ability to drive company vehicles and occasionally personal vehicle if needed
