DIS-TRAN Packaged Substations is looking to hire a Welder to work from our Port of Alexandria Facility in our Welding Department. The FBS Welder produces high quality 5F Fillet Welds with Aluminum Bus Pipe, is capable of reading and understanding welding symbols, and prepares all joints as required by established process procedures.The FBS Welder performs cutting, fitting, and welding of aluminum bus pipe and cable jumpers. The Welder performs duties with speed and accuracy in order to produce a quality product and keep a steady flow of productivity. The Welder manages work load Production speed while looking for improvement in processes.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates safety equipment and uses safe work habits.
  • Positions, aligns, and welds parts to form complete structures, following blueprints and layout specifications, using machinery, welding torches, and hand tools.
  • Recognizes, sets up, and operates hand and power tools common to the welding trade.
  • Examines aluminum or work pieces to be processed to ensure that specifications are met.
  • Moves parts safely into position; manually or with hoists or cranes.
  • Welds components in flat positions.
  • Operates manual welding equipment to fuse aluminum parts.
  • Cleans welds with grinders and other equipment common to the welding trade.
  • Capable of reading and understanding welding symbols.
  • Capable of training Welder Apprentice in any aspect of processes.
  • Promotes company goals.
  • Displays an excellent Safety record.
  • Operates manual welding equipment to fuse metal parts using the gas metal arc process.
  • Gives attention to details and weld cosmetic fine beads.
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Read and understand measuring devices such as tape measurer, rules, and combination squares required.
  • Perform simple shop math (add/subtract fractions, decimals, and whole numbers) required.
  • Experience applying simple hand tools such as wrenches, hammer, screw driver etc. required.
    • Ability to successfully complete a 2F Weld on Aluminum Bus Pipe (minimum required).
    • Ability to successfully complete a 5F Weld on Aluminum Bus Pipe (expected).
    • Ability to successfully complete a 6G Weld on Aluminum Bus Pipe (preferred).
    • Layout and fit structural steel required.
