The Welder / Fitter is responsible for fitting and welding carbon steel and stainless steel components in accordance with specifications and quality standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Position parts in jigs or fixtures on bench or floor; align and clamp components according to layout marks
  • Set up and operate welding equipment, including selecting appropriate torch, tips, filler rods, and materials based on specifications
  • Connect and regulate gas flow for welding operations; adjust flame and pressure as needed
  • Perform welding on various joints, including vertical and overhead welds
  • Tack weld and assemble work pieces to tight tolerances
  • Inspect welds for bead size, quality, and adherence to specifications
  • Repair cracks, fill holes, and build up worn metal components
  • Grind, chip, and clean welds to achieve required finish
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and AWS welding symbols
  • Track materials and consumables using weld maps
  • Perform basic lathe operations and assist with fabrication as needed
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • ASME Section IX certification preferred
  • Experience with carbon steel and stainless steel welding required
  • Ability to weld precision frames to exact tolerances with high-quality cosmetic finishes
  • Strong understanding of weld set-up techniques and fabrication processes
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and welding symbols (AWS)
  • Experience using measuring tools (tape measure, calipers, levels, squares, etc.)
  • Basic manual lathe operation skills preferred
  • Safe crane operation and essential rigging knowledge required
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (Epicor preferred) and basic Microsoft Office skills a plus
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 1–3 months of related experience/training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
