Ashburn Clinic Whānau|Family Advisor

Part-time employment contract - 4 hours per fortnight minimum, with additional hours as needed for specific quality improvement projects.

Ashburn Clinic is a not-for-profit, democratic therapeutic community and psychiatric hospital in Dunedin that provides assessment and treatment for people with mental health and addiction difficulties. Ashburn Clinic provides public and privately funded inpatient and outpatient services to people from all over New Zealand.

We are seeking someone with lived experience as whānau|family/support of a person/people with long-standing mental health difficulties to act as Whānau|Family Advisor at Ashburn Clinic. This person will work alongside staff to support the continued improvement of our services to tangata whaiora and whānau. The person appointed will not work directly with whānau but provide a whānau lens to service development and be integral to continuing the workplan established by the previous advisor.

The role is to:

  • To provide whānau perspective to Ashburn Clinic service planning and development
  • Work within the quality framework to achieve quality improvement projects
  • Contribute to staff meetings and education.

We are looking for a person who has:

  • Experience as a whānau advisor in the mental health and addiction sector
  • Awareness of or links to appropriate sector networks in NZ
  • Knowledge of, or a willingness to gain knowledge of, audit standards and experience in quality improvement activities
  • Experience of training and facilitating meetings
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
