Accounts Officer

Our client, a well-established accounting firm based in Floriana, Malta, is currently looking for an Accounts Officer to join their growing team. In this role, you will maintain accurate financial records, support the preparation of financial reports, and assist with compliance and audit requirements.

This is an office-based role offering a salary of up to €35K.

Please note that only candidates already based in Malta will be considered.

Role & Responsibilities

• Maintaining accurate, up-to-date ledgers, accounts, and financial records

• Reconciling payables, receivables, and bank statements to ensure accuracy and completeness

• Following up on overdue payments and resolving invoice discrepancies

• Organising invoices, receipts, and supporting documents across physical and digital filing systems

• Supporting new client onboarding, including ledger setup and initial data entry

• Contributing to the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts and financial reports

• Monitoring cash flow, expenditure, and forecasts, and supporting budget planning and control

• Helping ensure compliance with local and international financial regulations

• Assisting with the preparation of VAT and corporate income tax returns

• Providing documentation and support during external audits

Education, Skills & Experience

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Accounting, or halfway through the ACCA qualification

• 2+ years of experience in a similar role in Malta

• Fluency in English, both written and spoken

• Proficiency in Xero is a plus

• Basic knowledge of accounting principles and financial regulations is necessary

• Keen eye for detail, excellent time management skills, with the ability to respect deadlines

• Professional communication with clients, colleagues, and auditors

• Experience in analysing and reconciling financial data

• Previous experience with accounting software such as SAGE

• Motivation to learn and develop professionally
