Autocad Draughtsman - Fire Fighting System

Job Purpose

Responsible for preparing accurate technical drawings and documentation for fire fighting and fire protection systems. The role involves developing shop drawings, installation layouts, coordination drawings, as-built drawings, and supporting documentation in accordance with approved designs, project specifications, NFPA and BS standards, and relevant local authority requirements.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed AutoCAD drawings for fire fighting and fire protection systems, including sprinklers, wet and dry risers, hydrants, hose reels, deluge systems, foam systems, fire pumps, tanks, and associated pipework.

• Develop plans, sections, elevations, schematics, isometric drawings, installation drawings, builders’ work drawings, and as-built drawings.

• Interpret engineering designs, specifications, equipment schedules, architectural drawings, structural drawings, and coordinated MEP drawings.

• Produce accurate layouts showing pipe sizes, elevations, flow directions, equipment locations, valves, fittings, supports, sleeves, and other system components.

• Prepare fire fighting shop drawings for consultant, client, authority, and construction approval.

• Revise drawings based on engineering comments, consultant feedback, site conditions, coordination requirements, and approved design changes.

• Coordinate fire fighting drawings with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other building services drawings.

• Identify potential clashes and design discrepancies and coordinate with engineers and project teams to resolve them.

• Participate in design and coordination meetings and provide technical input relating to installation requirements and constructability.

• Support site teams by providing updated drawings, technical clarifications, installation details, and revised documentation.

• Prepare material take-offs, quantity schedules, pipework schedules, equipment schedules, and other project documentation as required.

• Ensure drawings comply with approved specifications, project standards, NFPA, BS codes, and applicable local authority regulations.

• Check dimensions, scales, annotations, drawing references, title blocks, revision details, and technical information before submission.

• Maintain drawing registers, revision histories, submission records, approval comments, and document control requirements.

• Prepare record drawings and support the compilation of operation and maintenance and handover documentation.

• Maintain organised CAD files, drawing templates, symbols, blocks, libraries, and project folders in accordance with company procedures.

• Work closely with design engineers, project managers, estimators, procurement teams, site supervisors, subcontractors, and consultants.

• Maintain awareness of fire protection design practices, CAD standards, construction methods, software updates, and relevant industry requirements.

Desired Candidate Profile

• Diploma, certificate, or technical qualification in Drafting, Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline preferred.

• Experience as an AutoCAD Draughtsman, Fire Fighting Draughtsman, Fire Protection Draughtsman, MEP Draughtsman, or similar role.

• Proven experience preparing drawings for fire fighting, fire protection, sprinkler, life-safety, or related MEP systems.

• Experience producing fire fighting shop drawings, coordinated layouts, installation drawings, builders’ work drawings, and as-built drawings.

• Proficiency in AutoCAD, including the use of layers, blocks, external references, annotation, scaling, plotting, and drawing standards.

• Knowledge of fire fighting systems including sprinklers, wet and dry risers, hydrants, hose reels, deluge systems, foam systems, fire pumps, and water tanks.

• Understanding of NFPA standards, BS codes, project specifications, and relevant local authority requirements.

• Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection drawings.

• Knowledge of MEP coordination, clash identification, pipework layouts, equipment clearances, supports, sleeves, and installation requirements.

• Experience working on commercial, residential, industrial, hospitality, infrastructure, or mixed-use construction projects.

• Experience with UAE or GCC projects and familiarity with local authority approval requirements is an advantage.

• Knowledge of Revit MEP, Navisworks, BIM coordination platforms, or other technical drawing software is beneficial.

• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, organisation, and time management skills.

• Ability to manage drawing revisions and deliver accurate documentation within project deadlines.

• Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
