Migration Lead Architect (AWS)

Location: Ireland / Hybrid

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Migration Lead Architect (AWS) to lead and govern large-scale cloud migration programmes, with a primary focus on AWS-led transformation.

This is a senior, customer-facing leadership role responsible for defining migration strategies, designing AWS target architectures, and leading delivery of enterprise-scale migration programmes. The successful candidate will engage directly with customers from day one, acting as the trusted technical authority across all phases of migration.

Key Responsibilities

1. AWS Migration Strategy & Architecture

• Define and own the end-to-end AWS migration strategy for enterprise customers.
  
• Design target-state AWS architectures, including landing zones, security, networking, and governance models.
  
• Establish migration patterns for rehost, replatform, and modernisation approaches.
• Provide architectural leadership for migrations from VMware and on-premises environments into AWS.

2. Migration Delivery & Factory Leadership

• Establish and lead a Migration Factory operating model for large-scale AWS migrations.
  
• Define and execute wave planning strategies, including dependency analysis and migration sequencing.
  
• Lead adoption and use of AWS migration tooling, including AWS Application Migration Service (MGN) and Migration Hub.
  
• Ensure scalable, repeatable, and automated migration delivery approaches.

3. Landing Zone & Platform Design (AWS)

• Architect and govern AWS Landing Zones aligned to security, compliance, and operational best practice.
  
• Ensure alignment to AWS frameworks including multi-account strategy, identity, networking, and cost governance.
  
• Provide technical oversight to engineering teams to ensure design integrity throughout delivery.

4. Customer & Executive Engagement

• Act as the primary AWS technical authority for the customer.
  
• Lead architecture workshops, migration planning sessions, and executive briefings.
  
• Translate technical migration approaches into business value and outcomes.
  
• Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders from initiation through delivery.

5. Governance, Risk & Assurance

• Define migration governance frameworks across AWS programmes.
  
• Ensure quality, documentation, and risk controls are embedded into delivery.
• Produce and assure key artefacts including HLDs, migration runbooks, and wave plans.

Required Experience & Skills

Experience

• 10+ years’ experience in infrastructure and cloud transformation.
  
• Proven experience leading large-scale AWS migration programmes.
  
• Strong experience in Migration Factory models and wave planning execution.
  
• Demonstrated track record in customer-facing architecture and delivery leadership.

Technical Expertise

• Strong hands-on architecture experience in AWS.
  
• AWS Landing Zones, multi-account design (AWS Organisations / Control Tower preferred).
  
• Networking, security, and identity in AWS.
  
• AWS Migration services including MGN.
• Understanding of VMware as a source platform.
