About this role
CONSULTANT RADIOLOGIST — REGIONAL TERTIARY HOSPITAL | NORTH QUEENSLAND Permanent Full-Time | Competitive Queensland Health Remuneration | Overseas-Trained Specialists Welcome
The Opportunity
We are recruiting on behalf of a leading public tertiary referral hospital in North Queensland, seeking an experienced Consultant Radiologist to join a well-established and expanding Medical Imaging Department on a permanent full-time basis.
This is a rare opportunity to take on a substantive staff specialist role in a busy, fully equipped department — delivering high-impact diagnostic services across a broad and diverse patient population in one of Queensland's most dynamic regional centres.
The Hospital
This 320-bed tertiary referral facility serves a catchment population of approximately 135,000 across a large geographic region, including metropolitan, rural, and remote communities. The hospital underwent a major $405 million redevelopment and now operates as a comprehensive, modern health service offering a full spectrum of inpatient and outpatient care — including a 24-hour emergency department, intensive care, oncology, cardiac services, surgical services, orthopaedics, renal, paediatrics, women's health, and more.
As the principal referral centre for its region, the hospital attracts complex, high-acuity cases that provide genuine clinical breadth and professional challenge.
The Medical Imaging Department
The department is a full-service, high-volume medical imaging unit operating across a wide range of modalities:
- General Radiography (CR and DR)
- Computed Tomography — including Dual Source CT
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
- Ultrasound
- Interventional Fluoroscopy
- Cardiac Catheter Laboratory
- Theatre Imaging (II)
The department is well-resourced with modern equipment and supports a multidisciplinary team including radiologists, radiographers, and sonographers. The imaging team currently includes consultant radiologists, sonographers, and RANZCR-accredited registrars, providing a collegial and well-supported working environment. The role offers genuine variety — from routine diagnostic work through to interventional and subspecialty reporting — with access to Queensland Health's broader networks for peer collaboration and CPD.
